Star Wars fans should rejoice as Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy offers some updates on the future of the franchise. Kennedy didn’t hold back and spilled what lies ahead for the franchise, including three new Star Wars films - a follow-up film to the Sequel trilogy and the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey.

Among the lineup of films is the yet-to-be-named film by Ms. Marvel director Sharmeed Obaid-Chinoy, which has received numerous speculations over the last few months. It was previously reported that co-writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson decided to bail on the project. Stephen Knight, known for his works for Peaky Blinders, stepped in to write the script for Daisy Ridley’s film.

During Kennedy’s interview with Yahoo! UK, the co-founder of production company Amblin Entertainment gave an update on what’s coming to the franchise. She said,

"We've been working on that [film] for a few years and all of that feeds in to our overall storytelling," Kennedy explained. "So we've just got to a point now where we've got a wonderful writer in Steven Knight, he's come on board and we're going to see a script probably in the next month and a half that we've been working on for quite a while. So we're getting close."

When asked what her reaction was when she first heard about the project, she said,

"There's never a time where something is just instantly suggested," Kennedy added. "It's such an evolution of conversations that we have all the time and we knew coming off of The Rise of Skywalker that we needed to take that further. We just didn't know how far out; we didn't know exactly what the story might be – but now we have a much better idea."

While Kathleen Kennedy offered some epic updates on the franchise, she stopped further elaborating on this news. The timeline and release date for these films weren’t revealed, but at least Star Wars fans can look forward to seeing the franchise again on the big screen. Fans can also expect Rey to further explore her journey in the franchise after she paved the way through the sequel trilogy.

The film starring Daisy Ridley will be set 15 years after the events of the film The Rise of Skywalker. The film will see Rey leading a Jedi Academy. With Steven Knight taking over the responsibilities of writing the script for Rey’s Star Wars film, it’s exciting to anticipate how her story will unfold after she founded a new Jedi Order.
