A television spinoff series based on the 2014 sci-fi action movie Lucy is now in the works, with Oscar-winning actor and Hollywood legend Morgan Freeman in talks to reprise his role. News of the Lucy spinoff show comes courtesy of Variety, with EuropaCorp and Village Roadshow teaming up for the project.
Details beyond that are thin on the ground at present, and there has been no reveal regarding the plot of the series, but it is exciting to hear that there are plans to delve back into the world created in Lucy. Written and directed by Luc Besson and led by Scarlett Johansson as the titular Lucy Miller, Lucy follows Johansson’s character after she accidentally ingests a drug that allows her to access far, far more than 10% of her brain. Not that we do actually use 10% of our brain, that’s a myth, but it’s not really that kind of movie.
Morgan Freeman stars in Lucy as Professor Samuel Norman, an expert in the brain who assists Lucy as she slowly discovers what she is now capable of. Should talks prove successful, Freeman would reprise the role as Professor Norman and will no doubt help another unfortunate soul who finds themselves suddenly able to do all manner of extraordinary things.
Lucy Was a Major Box Office Hit When it Landed in Theaters in 2014

More and more, Lucy's superpowers grow stronger by the minute; but, no one knows what will happen next. Will Lucy unlock the secrets of the fully operational human mind?”
Despite polarizing reviews from critics, Lucy went on to be a massive box office success, grossing over $463 million against a budget of just $39 million. There have been reports of plans for a Lucy sequel over the years, with director Luc Besson playing it coy over whether he would ever make a follow-up. "With Lucy, you'll see the end of the film. I don’t know how we can make a sequel, but if the film is huge, then I will think about it," the filmmaker said back in 2014 before saying later that same year, "I don't see how we can do one. It's not made for that. If I find something good enough, maybe I will, but for now, I don't even think about it."
Evidently, it looks like Besson has now found “something good enough” to constitute further adventures in the world of Lucy.
