When Mad Max: Fury Road hit theaters this May, many were disappointed that it wasn't available in the IMAX 3D format, since IMAX theaters were playing Avengers: Age of Ultron. Now that the summer movie season is over, fans will get to see this action-thriller in the beloved IMAX 3D format for the first time, during a limited one-week engagement starting Friday, September 11. From director George Miller, originator of the post-apocalyptic genre and mastermind behind the legendary Mad Max franchise, comes Mad Max: Fury Road, a return to the world of the Road Warrior, Max Rockatansky.
Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max (Tom Hardy) believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa (Charlize Theron). They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne), from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
The IMAX release of Mad Max: Fury Road will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of An IMAX 3D Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie. Mad Max: Fury Road has already taken in over $153 million at the domestic box office and $221.1 million internationally for a worldwide total of $374.1 million worldwide, from a $150 million budget.
The supporting cast of Mad Max: Fury Road includes Nicholas Hoult, Josh Helman, Nathan Jones, Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough and Abbey Lee. George Miller directs from a script he co-wrote with Brendan McCarthy and Nick Lathouris. For those who don't have an IMAX 3D theater nearby, you can pick up Mad Max: Fury Road on Blu-ray and DVD.
