Actor Matthew McConaughey has joined the cast of the indie drama Magic Mike for director Steven Soderbergh.

The story is loosely based on Channing Tatum's days as a teenage male stripper. Channing Tatum stars as the title character and produces the drama. Alex Pettyfer will play a younger stripper who Magic Mike mentors both on and off the stage. Matthew McConaughey is set to portray Dallas, a former stripper who now owns the Xquisite club where Magic Mike works.

Steven Soderbergh is directing from a script by Reid Carolin. Nick Wechsler and Gregory Jacobs are producing alongside Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin.

It isn't known when production will start on Magic Mike yet.
