According to The Hollywood Reporter, Malcolm D. Lee is set to direct the comedy The Better Man for Universal Pictures and studio-based producers Scott Stuber and Mary Parent. Charles Castaldi also will produce.

Better Man follows the story of a successful Los Angeles comedian who reluctantly heads back to the South with his wife and son to reunite with his family. There, old rivalries heat up.

Lee wrote the comedy as a spec, which landed at Universal in the summer. The movie will mark Lee's third collaboration with Universal Pictures, which released his features The Best Man and Undercover Brother.
