DC fans can rejoice as a Man of Steel sequel is reportedly in development, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It's been five long years since Henry Cavill played Superman, dating back to 2017 with Justice League. Fans were unsure whether the actor would return to the role following the leadership change with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, but it appears the company wants more of Cavill's portrayal.

The 39-year-old actor began playing the last son of Krypton in 2013 with Man of Steel before reprising his role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. According to the THR report, Warner Bros. Pictures heads Michael De Luca, and Pam Abdy want to see more from the character. Their "intense desire" to see Cavill return led to a project that "would essentially be Man of Steel 2," produced by Charles Roven. According to THR, the team is currently searching for writers to pen the script, with Christopher McQuarrie at the top of the list.

McQuarrie frequently collaborates with Tom Cruise, writing and directing the Mission: Impossible films beginning with Rogue Nation in 2015. In addition, he's worked on Edge of Tomorrow, The Mummy, and Jack Reacher. Unfortunately, the Warner Bros. Discovery team is unsure whether they can land McQuarrie, as he's currently working on the next two Mission: Impossible installments. This would be a reunion between the scriptwriter and Cavill, as the actor appeared opposite Cruise in Mission: Impossible - Fallout. Fans will likely be happy with whoever writes Man of Steel 2, as audiences have waited for a direct solo sequel for nearly a decade.

Spoiler Warning: MAJOR Spoilers for Black Adam Ahead

Though Black Adam has yet to release, the news surrounding the post-credit scene has been revealed. The recent THR report dives into what went on behind the scenes to bring the cameo to life and how Dwayne Johnson was the man in charge. Over the past few weeks, the actor has been vocal about his wish to bring Superman back to the big screen, preferably in a battle between his character, Black Adam, and the Man of Steel. Johnson essentially revealed the "surprise" cameo, with THR insiders suggesting it's a way to bring back the character and boost box office sales.

According to the report, Cavill was not in the initial plans for Black Adam but was added in a round of reshoots. Despite the scene being cut at one point, Johnson spoke with De Luca and Abdy, eventually returning the cameo to the final cut. The scene was shot in mid-September after intense negotiating. DC Films head Walter Hamada initially wanted to break away from the Zack Snyder era of the DCEU and reportedly pitched a Black Superman, which would be a multi-decade-spanning story before Johnson won execs over with Cavill's return.

Fans will see the power balance and expansion of DC when Black Adam arrives in theaters on Oct. 21. Of course, audiences will eagerly anticipate the eventual Man of Steel 2 news as long as development continues.
