A few months ago we got word that Warner Bros. was finally looking into doing a proper sequel to Man of Steel. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was originally intended to be that, but it turned into something much more. Maybe not greater, but more. We now have word from Amy Adams that Man of Steel 2 is indeed being worked on.

The actress, who plays Lois Lane in the DC Extended Universe, is currently doing promotion for her latest movie Arrival. Speaking with Hey U Guys, she was asked about the status of Man of Steel 2 and she gave a little bit of an update on the progress of the movie, confirming that it is in fact happening. Here is what she had to say.

"I read about Man of Steel 2 when you guys did. A lot of times I find out after the fact, which is fine, it's completely normal, it's not indicative of anything. But yeah, I know they're working on a script and I know it's in the works."

Originally, it was The Wrap that stated Warner Bros. was actively developing Man of Steel 2, but the studio has yet to give official confirmation of that. Since Amy Adams is directly involved, her saying that the script is being worked on and that the movie is "in the works" is arguably the most official confirmation about the movie we have had so far. One of the big issues with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was the treatment of Superman. He wasn't actually featured all that much in the movie, considering his name is in the title and fans have been very vocal about the mistreatment of the character in the DCEU in general. Man of Steel 2 could represent a good opportunity to fix some of that.

Man of Steel officially kicked off the DC Extended Universe back in 2013 and was the first Superman movie released since Bryan Singer's much maligned Superman Returns from 2006. The Zack Snyder take on Superman did well enough at the box office, bringing in $668 million worldwide, and was enough for Warner Bros. to move ahead with a full slate of DC Comics movies. That batch of movies started with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year, also directed by Zack Snyder, and that did not go nearly as well as anyone would have hoped.

At the moment, Man of Steel is actually the most well-reviewed movie in the DCEU. Both Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad were trashed upon arrival. Both have abysmal approval ratings on Rotten Tomatoes with 27 and 26 percent respectively, while Man of Steel sits at a bad but better 55 percent approval rating. There is still no word on when we can expect Man of Steel 2, but we are likely going to have to wait a while. Warner Bros. has two untitled DC comics movies to be released on Oct. 5, 2018, and Nov. 1, 2019. Odds are, one of those will be Ben Affleck's The Batman and the other could very well be Man of Steel 2. We will next see Cavill as Superman in Justice League on November 17, 2017.
