Heat Vision reports that Walt Disney Pictures has picked Mandy Moore to voice the lead part in its new Digital 3D-animated musical action-adventure Rapunzel. The film is inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairy tale.

Zachary Levi (NBC's Chuck), will voice the "dashing bandit who finds himself on the road with the rebellious, teenage hair apparent."

Directing this project is Byron Howard and Nathan Greno. Composing the film is multiple Oscar winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast).

The film will be released for the holidays in 2010.

Disney has tried to make a Rapunzel project for some time. Things kicked into high gear when Disney/Pixar chief creative officer John Lasseter came aboard in 2006.

In this new telling of the classic fairy tale, Rapunzel, audiences will be transported to a stunning CG fantasy world complete with the iconic tower, an evil witch, a gallant hero and, of course, the mysterious girl with the long golden tresses.
