The rumors that popped up last week were true. According to Variety, Mandy Patinkin will not be returning to his role on the popular CBS procedural drama Criminal Minds.

The actor claims he quite because of "creative differences." This is the second time the actor has ended his contract early on a CBS produced show. In 1995, he also turned tale on the drama Chicago Hope claiming that he needed more time to spend with his wife and kids.

The network stated, "His departure from the series will be explained to audiences in an episode to be filmed in the near future and broadcast early next season. A new character will be added to the series for next season."

Criminal Minds executive producer Ed Bernero said, "He gave us no advance notice that anything was wrong, no opportunity to find a way to make the loss of this character work, no indication that we should be looking for someone else, no warning that we might have to rewrite the first seven scripts (which is how far ahead we try to work) without the central character in them. He left us completely in the proverbial lurch."
