Manifest creator Jeff Rake has celebrated the show kicking off production on the fourth and final season of the sci-fi mystery drama, which this time only a few months ago seemed unlikely to ever make it to screens. Previously canceled by NBC, the series is about a set of passengers whose plane goes missing for five years, only to land after half a decade with all of the passengers not having aged and seemingly with new supernatural abilities.

Rake posted on his Twitter account to simply say, “AND WE’RE BACK.” Series star Josh Dallas also took to his Twitter account to share an image of the Manifest script and a pair of his character’s spectacles, commenting, “Something is happening. #manifest season 4 has begun!! Nothing will ever be the same.”

Over on Instagram, the sentiment was being replicated by fellow actor J.R. Ramirez, who added a selfie while praising the fans who made the show’s return possible. He wrote, “Alright I’m gonna try to keep this short n sweet. Walking through the stages this am… Just felt different. I’ve been working in this business for almost two decades now and I know to land a team of Cast n Crew that is as Collaborative, Dedicated and in my opinion (Most Importantly) 'Ego Checked' as these Beautifully Talented Humans are… well it RARELY happens. With all that being said. It’s only day one and you can already feel the Level of Appreciation this group has for the Magical Ride that is Manifest! But let’s keep it real… The reality is ALL of This Magic is happening because of YOU guys! You guys made this happen! We Love You. Can’t wait for you to see how it all comes together…”

Manifest aired its first episodes back in September 2018, and was immediately a hit for NBC, giving off a vibe similar to Lost, with its mixing of unworldly elements in a character-driven story centering on a group of airline passengers whose flight goes missing in the air during turbulence. While the passengers are unaware of anything having happened, on landing they find the plane surrounded by police and investigators as they discover that they have been away for five years. Over the course of three seasons, the mysteries within the story expanded and we began to see that the disappearance was seemingly no accident, but part of something seemingly bigger than any of them.

The show gave NBC some of its highest ratings in the time slot, but for some reason, they decided to pull the plug ahead of a fourth season renewal. What made it harder to take for both fans and its creator is that Jeff Rake revealed that he had laid out the plan for a six-season run to tell the entire story with the network when first bringing the series to them. Following the cancellation, and a few months of rumors and speculation over whether someone would come in to save the show and allow Rake to bring the whole thing to a proper, if shorter than planned, close, Netflix stepped up and offered him one final season to tell his story. Previous seasons of the drama streaming on Netflix at the time became a huge audience draw and gained a whole new lease of life in the process.

There is currently no word on exactly when the new season of Manifest on Netflix will do just that, but for now fans new and old have the chance to be able to catch up on everything so far before facing what is setting up to be a big and hopefully fulfilling finale.
