As promised Disney, Marvel and director James Gunn have unveiled what might be considered the best trailer of 2016. Yes, the first official teaser trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has arrived. And it didn't disappoint. In fact, most would probably agree that it surpassed expectations. There is plenty of awesome action and tons of truly hilarious moments in this first look footage. And if nothing else, Guardians 2 promises to be a fun ride.

Following the trailer's official release from Marvel, we have over 100 images from the footage itself. Probably the coolest reveal is that of Pom Klementieff as Mantis. She is seen reaching deep into Star-Lord's thoughts, where his true love for Gamora is finally admitted. Drax is so overjoyed by Peter Quill's vulnerability in this scene, he laughs like a maniac demanding that his deepest, darkest secrets be unveiled next.

There is also some great interaction between Rocket Raccoon and Baby Groot in this new trailer. Rocket is in possession of a bomb that could destroy a major part of the galactic universe. And he's trying to teach Groot how not to push the button. Looking for some tape, Rocket takes his eyes off the bomb for just one second, and Baby Groot is making away with it.

Their is plenty of action and spaceship fights in this teaser. And it looks like it is bigger and better than what James Gunn delivered in the original 2014 release. Perhaps disappointing to fans is that this trailer does not show Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet, who was revealed at Comic-Con to be Peter Quill's true father. While fans in San Diego got to witness his big reveal, everyone else is going to have to wait until a later date.

James Gunn is returning to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and he also wrote the script. He reveals himself here as a true master of comedic action. And the Awesome Mix Vol. 2 sounds like it will be to die for. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set for release on May 5, 2017. Chris Pratt leads this ensemble as Star-Lord, followed by Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot (even though Groot is a baby this time around) and Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket. The sequel has added a ton of new talent as well, including Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell and Elizabeth Debicki. Karen Gillan is also returning as Nebula and Michael Rooker is coming back as Yondu.

Now that you've watched the trailer ten times in a row, go even deeper with these awesome new images. There is plenty to Marvel at here. And it certainly looks as though this is going to be one of 2017's biggest blockbusters. It is one of 3 new Marvel movies coming, with Spider-Man: Homecoming to arrive later on in the summer and Thor: Ragnarok hitting in November. Next year might be Marvel's biggest and best year yet as Marvel Phase 3 continues to impress.
