The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb has been confirmed to direct Sony's upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which is currently set for release on June 10, 2016.

We reported in October that the The Amazing Spider-Man 2 writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Jeff Pinkner are returning to write the script for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, with Matthew Tolmach and Avi Arad producing.

Now that the creative team is set in stone, it will be interesting to see which cast members will be back for the third installment of this reboot trilogy. Andrew Garfield will surely be back as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and we reported in October that Paul Giamatti will be back as Aleksei Sytsevich a.k.a. The Rhino. Chris Cooper, who plays Norman Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, has also hinted that he will be back in the 2016 sequel, although no other cast members have been confirmed.

Sony is also expanding the Spider-Man universe, announcing in December that The Sinister Six and Venom spin-offs are in development. Alex Kurtzman is directing The Sinister Six movie from a script he co-wrote with Roberto Orci and Ed Solomon, with Drew Goddard writing and possibly directing the Venom feature.
