Filmgoers are loving The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and that fan love has further extended the video game adaptation's accolades. It is now the No. 1 most popular title in the world on IMDb, ranking high in that spot after its debut in theaters earlier this month. The reveal comes from IMDbPro, which ranks titles on a weekly basis based on the number of page views acquired from more than 200 million users who visit IMDb every month.

Additionally, Anya Taylor-Joy is also rising high at IMDb. IMDbPro's STARmeter rankings currently have Taylor-Joy listed as the No. 5 most popular star in the world. Taylor-Joy voices Princess Peach in the film, serving as one part of the ensemble cast of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. This is the first theatrical film to feature Taylor-Joy in 2023, and even through doing voiceover work, the performance has given the Furiosa star another big boost in popularity.

While the Rotten Tomatoes reviews were mixed with critics, filmgoers were almost unanimously impressed, as The Super Mario Bros. Movie has an audience score of 96% fresh. Its box office performance further shows how popular the film has become, as The Super Mario Bros. Movie has grossed over $677 million worldwide, per Box Office Mojo. That follows an opening weekend haul of more than $146 million. It is already the highest-grossing film of 2023 along with being the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time.

Jack Black's "Peaches" song, which is featured in the film, has proven to be a big success as well. The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 83, the first solo song for Black to chart on the list. The popular song is also eligible to be nominated for an Oscar, so more big wins could still be on the way for The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Things were not the same when the live-action Super Mario Bros. movie was released in theaters in 1993. That film was heavily panned by critics and fell short at the box office, likely serving as the biggest reason why Nintendo would go on to spend many years completely avoiding having their video games adapted for new movies. The animated film from Illumination is much more faithful to the source material, which was the biggest gripe fans had with the previous film, and it would seem that going that route was the right call, given this new film's success.
