Star Wars fans are gearing up for the first Star Wars Celebration since 2019 and while there will be a lot of old and new Star Wars alums there to join in the fun, Mark Hamill will not be among them. The actor, who will always be known as Luke Skywalker, is usually an integral part of any big Star Wars-based event, but as he shared with his fans on Twitter, he does have a pretty good reason for not being in attendance at next month’s event.

Hamill revealed that he unfortunately cannot join the likes of Anthony Daniels, Ian McDiarmid, Carl Weathers, Ashley Eckstein and Joonas Suotamo on May 26th because he is wrapped up filming his new Netflix series until July and that means he is not in the country at the time the celebration takes place. However, that will probably not stop him from finding some way to join in the event via the internet even if it is just to jump on his Twitter account for a while. His full post read:

“Sorry I won’t be able to join you this year at #StarWarsCelebration. I am out of the country filming Mike Flanagan’s The Fall of The House of Usher until early July. Have a wonderful time! I’ll be with you in spirit while my actual body will be elsewhere.”

While Hamill cannot attend this year’s Star Wars Celebration event, the actor has usually attempted to make time to meet fans and share stories whenever possible. He last attended the Star Wars Celebration event in 2017 in Orlando, Florida. During that event, the iconic actor acted as host on a panel that was dedicated to the memory of the late Carrie Fisher. Of course, there have been very few opportunities for fans and actors to come together at such events thanks to the Covid Pandemic, but with most restrictions now lifted around the world, there are a lot of fans champing at the bit to be mingling with the stars again.

In the same respect, the news of Hamill’s absence from the event was met with a wave of sadness from those who are planning on going and would no doubt have loved the chance to potentially bump into the one and only Luke Skywalker.

However, no Star Wars fan can really be sad for long next month as, although they will not have the chance to spend a little time in the presence of one legendary Jedi, they will be preparing to welcome the arrival of another that same weekend with the premiere of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ on May 27. After almost 20 years, both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen will be returning to the Star Wars universe as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, respectively, and that in itself means the new series is one of the most anticipated shows arriving on Disney+ this year. With only one month to go, there is not much longer to wait to see what transpires in the next chapter of the Star Wars Saga.
