Mark Ruffalo has signed on to star in Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leonardo DiCaprio is also appearing in this joint Paramount and Columbia project.

Laeta Kalogridis wrote this adaptation of the 2004 Dennis Lehane novel. Ruffalo is set to play U.S. Marshal Chuck Aule who, in 1954, flew with his new partner (DiCaprio) to Shutter Island to investigate the disappearance of a mental patient. They soon find themselves lost in a web of lies and unable to get off the island.

The film is set to begin shooting in March.
