Marvel's The Avengers star Mark Ruffalo has joined the cast of Foxcatcher for AnnaPurna Pictures and director Bennett Miller (Moneyball).

This drama is based on the true story of Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz, and his relationship with John du Pont, who shot and killed him in 1996. John du Pont was the heir to the Du Pont chemical empire, who was also a paranoid schizophrenic. He built a wrestling training facility dubbed "Team Foxcatcher" on his Pennsylvania estate. Schultz was a longtime friend to du Pont, who repeatedly tried to get him help before du Pont killed him. Steve Carell is attached to play John du Pont, which we reported back in September, and Channing Tatum will play Schultz's younger brother, Mark, who was also an Olympic wrestler.

Dan Futterman and E. Max Frye wrote the screenplay, with Megan Ellison producing and financing the project through her Annapurna Pictures company. Anthony Bregman, Jon Kilik, and Bennett Miller are also producing.

It is said that Bennett Miller has been developing this project for over four years. Production is scheduled to begin this October in Pittsburgh.
