Updated: We have reported here that Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is set to play Heavy Duty, meaning that the unlikely suggestion from BlackFilm.com has been proven to be false.

Here is the original story:

Casting news for Stephen Sommer's G.I. Joe has been leaking out over the past few days, to generally pretty positive reaction from the fans. Now we have received a piece of casting news that leaves us scratching our heads. According to BlackFilm.com, Marlon Wayans has been offered the role of Lamant Morris, a.k.a. Heavy Duty.

Heavy Duty is the G.I. Joe team's heavy weapons expert. Hasbro describes the character as "A qualified expert with all known heavy infantry weapons systems." They also say that the character is "The biggest and strongest member of the G. I. JOE team, Heavy Duty is the main source of covering fire on the ground when the team is in assault mode. Even under the worst of conditions, every member of the G. I. JOE team knows that Heavy Duty will be there to back them up and that he is prepared to do his job and keep on doing it."

Yes, you read that correctly. Marlon Wayans has been offered the role of the biggest and strongest member of the G.I. Joe team.

If Wayans accepts, he will join Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Sienna Miller and Rachel Nichols in the adaptation of the 1980's cartoon.

G.I. Joe is scheduled for an August 7, 2009 release.
