Director Ridley Scott keeps adding to the cast of his sci-fi thriller The Martian, with Sebastian Stan, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mackenzie Davis joining the cast today.

The story centers on an American astronaut named Mark Watney (Matt Damon), who is stranded on Mars after the rest of his crew members believes he is dead. He must struggle to survive until NASA can launch a rescue mission to bring him back home. No details were given for Sebastian Stan, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mackenzie Davis' characters, but they join a cast that also includes Jessica Chastain, Michael Peña, Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean and Donald Glover.

Ridley Scott is directing from a script by Drew Goddard, which is adapted from Andy Weir's best-selling novel of the same name, with Simon Kinberg producing. Here's what the producer had to say about the project in a brief statement.

"This is one of those movies that's had a blessed life. Every actor is doing it for significantly less than their normal fee. It's a real labor of love."

Production is slated to begin in November. Sebastian Stan most recently starred as The Winter Soldier in Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, while Chiwetel Ejiofor is coming off Best Picture winner 12 Years a Slave. Mackenzie Davis starred in this year's comedy That Awkward Moment and the AMC series Halt & Catch Fire.
