Still basking in the afterglow of reuniting with the cast of Martin after 30 years, Martin Lawrence was all smiles on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The comedian and actor discussed the 1990s sitcom and its impact, along with the many characters he played on the show. After Fallon asked if he would be interested in a Martin reboot, Lawrence explained that although he wouldn’t mind working with the cast again on another project, he didn’t think a reboot would recapture the essence of the 1992 show. The Bad Boys star said:

“I think, well, you know, the ‘Martin’ show was like catching lightning in a bottle, and I don’t think we can redo that again. I wouldn’t mind working with the case again on something, but I don’t think we can do that again.”

Further along in the discussion, Lawrence did bring up just what project he would love to see on the big screen and promised they had “some stuff” coming. What that is remains to be seen.

“I would love to see a movie with Sheneneh. We were supposed to do a movie with Sheneneh and Jamie Foxx with Wanda, but that never came about. If we could ever get that together, I think y’all would love this.”

Seeing Martin Lawrence and Jamie Foxx team up to act a whole fool may result in a laugh-fest indeed. Rumors about a Sheneneh and Wanda film first began in the late 2000s and Foxx even disclosed in a 2010 interview with HipHollywood that a movie had been written. Foxx stated:

“The Wanda and Sheneneh movie is officially written. We will officially start in the next couple of months. When I tell you look out, Martin Lawrence is back like you will not believe. So, get ready.”

In 2009, Variety reported that film production and distribution company Screen Gems acquired the Sheneneh and Wanda project which was to be produced through Foxx’s FoxxKing and Lawrence’s Runteldat production banners. The project was the result of the parody movie trailer for a film called Skank Robbery that Foxx and Lawrence made for the 2009 BET Awards. Foxx had revealed that the film would follow Sheneneh and Wanda as they robbed banks across the state of California and also star Halle Berry. In 2017, Foxx commented on Lawrence’s Instagram stating he’s going to set up plans to get production started.

Lawrence nor Foxx disclosed why the film never worked out or at least why, or if, plans were placed on hold. Nevertheless, in light of Lawrence’s recent comments, one has to wonder what he may have up his sleeves.
