Disney Parks announced today plans to expand their Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland with new attractions based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes. These attractions will be developed through Disney's partnership with Marvel Studios and Marvel Themed Entertainment that will, "champion the next generation of superheroes." Disney released three posters for each attraction, with the Disneyland poster featuring heroes like Spider-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
The superhero-themed land at Disneyland will open in 2020, building off the success of the current hit ride Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout that is featured in Disney's California Adventure park. This new land will feature Spider-Man and the Avengers joining the Guardians of the Galaxy, with the new land being "anchored" by the Mission: Breakout ride. The new land will be housed in the space adjacent to Mission: Breakout, which is currently occupied by A Bug's Land. The It's Tough to Be a Bug area closed on March 19, with the rest of the land slated to close in late summer.
The Disneyland Paris poster features heroes such as Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk and Scarlet Witch, with this superhero land part of a "transformative multi-year expansion." The expansion will begin this summer with Disneyland Paris hosting Marvel's Summer of Super Heroes from June 10 to September 30. This attraction will including some of your favorite Marvel heroes who will take the stage for a, "live-action super-production featuring cutting-edge special effects and spectacular projections." The new Marvel-themed area at Walt Disney Studios Park will open in 2020, featuring, "a reimagined attraction where riders will team up with Iron Man and their favorite Avengers on a hyper-kinetic adventure."
The final poster for Hong Kong Disneyland features Ant-Man, The Wasp, Captain America and Hawkeye, with this new themed area featuring an attraction where fans will team up with both Ant-Man and The Wasp on an adventure. This will be paired with the Iron Man Experience, which opened at Hong Kong Disneyland in 2017 and has become the resort's most popular attraction. There are no details about when this new area may open at Hong Kong Disneyland yet, or when construction may begin on this new project.
Disney revealed details about its new Disneyland attraction at the D23 Expo last summer, and the studio also released concept art for th Hong Kong Disneyland attraction, which featured Ant-Man. We also reported in February that Disney was planning Black Panther attractions for both Disney World and Disneyland, but there is no indication as to when we may get specific details on what will be showcased from T'challa's homeland of Wakanda in these attractions. Given the massive box office success of Black Panther, it's not surprising why Disney would want to showcase this movie at its theme parks. In the meantime, you can take a look at the brief video below, along with the new posters, which debuted at the Disney Parks Blog.
