Marvel Studios is currently knee-deep in Phase 3 of their incredibly successful superhero cinematic universe. Still, fans are always eager to know more, and since we already know all of the movies that are planned for Phase 3, many want to know what is planned for Phase 4. Kevin Feige recently confirmed that they do know some of the titles we can look forward to in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he can't tell us what they are.
The president of Marvel Studios isn't just being cruel and withholding information just for the fun of it. He has his reasons. In a recent interview with The Toronto Sun he revealed that they know what some of the post Avengers: Infinity War movies will be, but if he were to tell us, it would be venturing into spoiler territory. Here is what he had to say.
"Where we go after Avengers; what those 2020 films are, we're pretty sure what those are going to be... but if I tell you that, we're getting into spoilers."
Avengers: Infinity War and the now untitled Avengers 4 are going to be game changers for the MCU. Iron Man, Captain America and the gang are going to be dealing with Thanos (finally) and the Infinity Gauntlet will be in play. There will be consequences and we can assume some casualties. So, announcing something as hypothetically simple as Iron Man 4 would be revealing in that we would know Robert Downey Jr. isn't tired of being the highest paid actor on the planet and that he would be back for another movie. Keeping those titles a secret makes Avengers: Infinity War a bigger mystery and it seems like Marvel wants to keep it that way.
That is totally understandable, but we can still figure some of what Marvel Phase 4 may have to offer. For one, Doctor Strange is currently making a killing at the box office and has been incredibly well received by fans and critics. Plus *spoilers* a sequel was heavily teased in the post-credits scene for the movie, so Doctor Strange 2 very much seems like something that is destined for Phase 4. Kevin Feige also recently teased that Inhumans, which was bumped from Marvel's release schedule entirely, will definitely happen at some point, so that also seems like a Phase 4 possibility. Other things like Namor, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Black Panther 2, Black Widow, another Spider-Man movie and maybe even an Illuminati movie all seem varying degrees of possible.
For now, we will have to just be happy with what Marvel Studios still has coming down the pipe for Phase 3, which is a lot. James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is due out on May 5, 2017. That will be followed closely by Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 7, 2017, with Thor: Ragnarok poised to bring some long awaited Planet Hulk action on November 3, 2017. 2018 will see the release of Black Panther on February 16, Avengers: Infinity War on May 4 and Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6. Finally, 2019 will bring us the arrival of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel on March 8 and the conclusion of Phase 3 with Avengers 4 on May 5.
