Spider-Man and Captain America have fallen to Spongebob Squarepants and Scooby-Doo at Universal Studios Hollywood theme park. According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, the agreement between Marvel Comics and Universal Studios expired on December 31, 2007, removing Spider-Man and the other Marvel characters from the park.

What this means for guests is that Marvel characters will no longer be walking the park and posing for pictures with guests, nor will their likenesses appear on t-shirts or other souvenirs sold at the parks. Universal has reportedly added the presence of other costumed characters to prepare for the departure of the superheroes.

This will not affect the inclusion of the Marvel Superheroes at Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando, Florida.
