EW has launched a new series of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast portraits, which introduce the actors and characters behind this fall's most anticipated new series (at least by comic and superhero fans). Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons "Bio-Science"

"She's always in the lab and works very closely with Fitz; like an old married couple. She's highly intelligent doesn't apologize for it and has come up the ranks very quickly."

Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz "Weapons Technology"

"He designs and builds all the gadgets and technology. He's kind of lost touch with reality and spends a lot of time with Simmons - they can have the most crazy argument you've ever seen and then 10 minutes later it's like nothing happened. He spends a lot of time living in front of the reality of a computer screen. Now he's entering into this world that's more hands on."

Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May "Pilot/Weapons Expert"

"Something has happened to her at a level she couldn't cope with so she ended up doing paperwork. She's called in by Phil to join the team but she's reluctant to get back on the field because of her deep dark past. Every human being needs to play a kick-ass character like this."

Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward "Black Ops Specialist"

"He's a one-man ninja, he's a Swiss Army knife, he has a tool for every situation. But he's got a gap in that skill set and that's anything involving other people."

Chloe Bennet as Sky "Hacker"

"Most hackers are portrayed as weird outcasts who only know how to deal with electronics. She's a computer hacker who is not socially awkward. She's just as much of an actress as I am, she knows how to get her way."

Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson "Team Leader"

"The last time I looked from this guy's eyes they were going dark fast. And now he's walking around with the story of this close call that he had and recovering from that. I don't know how you can go through what Phil Coulson went through - and he doesn't even know how near-death or full death that is - without being changed somehow. That's not something that's going to be ignored."
