Nashville star Chloe Bennet has joined the cast of Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. as Skye, the sixth and final series regular role. She joins Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson), Ming-Na (Agent Melinda May), Elizabeth Henstridge (Agent Gemma Simmons), Iain De Caestecker (Agent Leo Fitz}, and Brett Dalton (Agent Grant Ward). Here is a brief rundown of the character that was revealed back in October.

"This late-20s woman sounds like a dream: fun, smart, caring and confident - with an ability to get the upper hand by using her wit and charm."

The character is also obsessed with superhero culture, which is likely what lead her to work at S.H.I.E.L.D. However, the series will be set solely within the shadowy government organization, and will not feature any of the heroes from this summer's blockbuster Marvel's The Avengers.

Joss Whedon will direct the pilot episode from a script he co-wrote with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. The writers will also serve as executive producers alongside Jeph Loeb and Jeffrey Bell. Production is scheduled to begin in January. We reported yesterday that if ABC picks up the pilot, the series will likely debut next fall on ABC.

Chloe Bennet plays the record company assistant Hailey in a recurring role on ABC's Nashville.
