Marvel's The Avengers earned a ridiculous $1.5 billion this summer season worldwide, so its no surprise that Joss Whedon's superhero mashup is killing the home video market.

The film topped the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart as well as the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart for the week through September 30th. 72% of the unit sales came in the Blu-ray format while 23% were from the 3D Blu-ray combo pack, which is a record high for a new-release on disc in which both DVD and Blu-ray versions were equally available.

Marvel's The Avengers home media formats sold thirty-four times the amount that Warner Bros. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 sold debuting at First Alert Number 2.

Other Marvel titles such as Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk also made their ways back up to the First Alert Top 25. They also returned to the Top 20 Blu-ray chart as well.
