Is Michael B. Jordan preparing to join The Matrix franchise? According to a new rumor, he is and Lana Wachowski is reportedly on board to direct. A few weeks ago, John Wick 3 director Chad Stahelski said both Wachowskis were on board for The Matrix 4, but his representative later walked back the comment and stated the director was talking hypothetically, leaving many fans of the franchise with their hopes up. Warner Bros. has been developing a Matrix project for years now, which is possibly a reboot.

Apparently the new Matrix movie is going to star Michael B. Jordan and be directed by Lana Wachowski under the working title "Project Ice Cream." According to the rumor, the movie is currently in active development and ready to start shooting in Chicago in the near future. Zak Penn reportedly wrote the script, which has found its way into the news before. It's important to note that nobody at Warner Bros. has officially confirmed the new Matrix project.

This isn't the first time Michael B. Jordan's name has been floated around with The Matrix franchise. His name was mentioned back in 2017. At the time of the initial Jordan rumors, the Wachowskis were not involved. However, it appears things may have changed over the past two years with Lana Wachowski possibly returning to the franchise. The Wachowskis wrote and directed the original movies and changed the action movie genre forever, creating a new style in the process. The studio did not have high hopes for the first installment at the time of its release in 1999, but it ended up becoming a box office sensation.

As for Keanu Reeves, who starred in the original Matrix movies, he has expressed interest in returning to the franchise, but only if the Wachowskis are on board. Now with rumors of Lana Wachowski returning, rumors of Reeves' involvement are more than likely to start popping up. With that being said, Reeves is a busy actor with a ton on his plate. Plus, it's not clear if this new project will be the often-talked about The Matrix 4 or a complete reboot of the franchise. Regardless, fans are ready to see the story continue in some way.

Chad Stahelski worked as a stunt coordinator on the original Matrix movies and he has said he would return in a heartbeat. The director claims he would put down whatever he was doing in order to help out the Wachowskis. Maybe we'll see them all return, or maybe we won't. Warner Bros. is continuing to work on the project behind-the-scenes and it isn't entirely clear who will be involved when all is said and done. For now, we'll just have to wait and see if production is really gearing up to start in Chicago. The Geeks Worldwide were the first to report the Michael B. Jordan casting rumors.
