Universal Pictures is in early negotiations with Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass to return to the Jason Bourne franchise. The actor had previously stated that he will not come back to the franchise unless Paul Greengrass is directing, and, if negotiations are finalized, this may finally happen.

This project is being developed separately from The Bourne Legacy sequel that we reported earlier this month is moving forward with Jeremy Renner and screenwriter Anthony Peckham. The studio plans to continue this franchise regardless of what happens with Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass, but there is the possibility of a crossover featuring both Matt Damon's Jason Bourne and Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross, if a deal can be made.

Matt Damon starred as Jason Bourne in 2002's The Bourne Identity, directed by Doug Liman, and director Paul Greengrass' sequels The Bourne Supremacy in 2004 and The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007.
