Friends star Matthew Perry has learned his lesson from speaking ill of beloved actor Keanu Reeves. Last year, Perry released his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, which delve dinto the actor's life and career. It was observed by readers that Perry had taken some jabs at Reeves in the book, joking multiple times how he doesn't understand why the John Wick star is still alive when other actors he knew had gone too soon. Given how popular Reeves is with the general public, the comments were not well-received at all.

"Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?" as Perry wrote in his memoir, at another time lamenting how "Keanu Reeves walks among us" when recalling Chris Farley's death.

Reeves didn't comment on the situation publicly, though reports suggested he was surprised and taken aback by the comments, unaware of any issues with Perry. Perry would later clarify that he doesn't dislike Reeves, but had just chosen a "random name" to use for the book. He added that he should have "used my own name instead."

Now, Perry is further trying to make this better by noting how the Reeves jokes will be removed from future editions of the book. The actor said as much at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, addressing how he much he feels that it was "stupid" to include them in the first place. Perry also reiterated how it was nothing personal against Reeves, but it was just a name that had popped into his head as they happen to be neighbors.

"I said a stupid thing. It was a mean thing to do,” Perry said of the jokes. "I pulled his name because I live on the same street. I’ve apologized publicly to him. Any future versions of the book will not have his name in it.”

Perry hasn't apologized to Reeves personally just yet as he hasn't seen the Matrix star, but he promised, "If I run into the guy, I’ll apologize. It was just stupid.”

In his memoir, Perry also dives deep into his struggles with addiction that developed during his run on Friends. He spoke at the Festival of Books about these issues, noting that he's still trying to make sense of why he's still here when he's come so close to death on multiple occasions.

“The amount of times I escaped death, there has to be a reason. I don’t know what that is," he said.
