Matthew Vaughn is no longer attached to direct the adaptation of Marvel Comic's Thor. This detail came out earlier this week, thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, but was overlooked in the hype surrounding Marvel's long slate of adaptations and the success of Iron Man.

This isn't the first time Vaughn (Stardust) has missed out on his opportunity to direct a Marvel-based film. He was originally slated to direct X-Men: The Last Stand, but lost out to Brett Ratner.

Thor is waiting for a script polish from Mark Protosevich, and will be set mainly in the mythical home of the gods known as Asgard, making it more like Lord of the Rings than most superhero films.
