Terminator Salvation director McG is about to head into some unchartered terrirtory for the filmmaker: a romantic comedy. According to The Hollywood Reporter, McG is in negotiations to direct the gestating project This Means War.

Bradley Cooper and Reese Witherspoon are attached to star in the film, which centers on two longtime friends whose friendship dissolves when they both fall for the same woman (Witherspoon) and battle it out for her love all over New York City.

Fox first picked up this script back in 1998, with several directors and stars attached at different times, including Gore Verbinski and Martin Lawrence. We even reported way back in 2004 that Igby Goes Down writer-director Burr Steers was rewriting the script, but it isn't clear if Steers is still involved with the film, or who the writer on the project is.
