One of the breakout stars of the new sequel Ghostbusters: Afterlife is young Mckenna Grace. In the movie, the 15-year-old plays Phoebe, granddaughter of Harold Ramis' Egon Spengler who winds up following in his footsteps. Phoebe is one part of an ensemble of new characters that are picking up from where the original Ghostbusters team left off in the 1980s with the first two movies.

Many fans have noticed some similarities between Egon and his granddaughter, and in a new interview with Collider, Grace herself spoke about taking on the important role in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. She admits that there is a certain family resemblance there, but at the same time, Phoebe still very much feels like her own character. Keeping that in mind actually took some of the pressure off of her performance, because she's not trying to replicate Ramis, but instead offer something fresh to the franchise.

“The thing is, Phoebe’s not an imitation of Egon. As much as she’s a Spengler — and by looking at her you can tell, she’s very reminiscent of the old Ghostbusters. She has the Egon feel down to the way that she talks and the way that her hair looks, her glasses. She seems like him, but at the same time, she’s still her own character. It was a little bit scary to try and live up to Egon Spengler, but then I realized I don’t have to because we’re creating a different character. She might be related in looks and blood, but we wanted to be able to create something that’s newer but it still has that authentic old Ghostbusters feel that gives you that kind of nostalgia.”

In the interview, Grace also addresses the concerns people have about child stars, such as if she's missing out on a genuine childhood by spending so much time acting. For her part, Grace says she's been having the time of her life as a young star in Hollywood, and she really couldn't be any happier. She is quick to dismiss the worries others may have for her with this being the case.

"I’ve been acting for 10 years professionally and I’m only 15, so that’s a weird thing to say. But I’ve been acting since I was five and a lot of people are like, ‘Oh, that poor girl. All she does is work. She needs to go outside, ride a bike.’ Those to me are the stupidest comments and stuff because I have so much fun. It’s like, ‘Oh, she needs to be outside. Ah!’ I’m literally outside skating, doing all sorts of stuff. [It’s] just, a lot of parts of my life I don’t share on social media, so it’s hard to see behind the curtain. But honestly, this is what I love doing. This is my passion. I would not rather be doing anything else besides this, anything creative.”

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is now playing in movie theaters after many significant delays. Is it worth the wait? Many fans certainly feel that way, and you can find out for yourself by heading to the cineplex. Given the success it's already drawn, chances are we'll get a sequel.
