There’s no doubt that fight scenes were included in movies even before the superhero franchise started to hold a big significance in the pop culture. That said, the MCU blockbusters have arguably made them something to look forward to and look out for when watching a new release. And with each MCU release, it seems as if each fight scene grows more impressive than the last.

We should definitely give more of our appreciation to the fight choreographers that create the complex scenes that we all love. Imagine watching the new Spider-man: No Way Home without any sort of fight sequence between the villains and Spider-Man team-ups — what a let-down that would be! To value the importance of excellent fight scenes, let's look at the best one-on-one fight scenes in the MCU.

9 Wenwu vs Ying Li (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings)

Wenwu-Yang-Li-Fight-Scene-ShangChi-And-The-Legend-Of-The-Ten-Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is truly unique with its depiction of deep-rooted family values and a beautiful portrayal of Chinese culture and martial arts. But what truly caught our eye is the distinctive portrayal of a fight scene between Shang-Chi's parents: Wenwu (Tony Leung) and Ying Li (Fala Chen). When Wenwu invaded Ying Li's community's territory, they meet face-to-face and a fight kicks off as she tries to protect the entrance. What's beautiful about the fight is that it feels more like a dance than anything else. A dance that essentially tells the story of how they fall in love when Wenwu realizes that Ying Li has the upper hand.

8 Iron Man vs Captain America (Captain America: Civil War)

Here we go with the most controversial debate that has ever existed: are you Team Captain America (Chris Evans) or Team Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.)? Can we be the bigger person and admit that both of them were partially in the wrong in Captain America: Civil War and there's no reason to defend them to death just because you happen to prefer one of them? Both of them are war criminals and have used weapons to hurt others. They eventually got what they deserve and there's definitely no right answer. What we, as an audience, truly needed after all the built-up anger, was a proper fight between the two. Steve, though, is the bigger person in the end, as he leaves his shield behind and walks away from the fight in favor of protecting Bucky.

7 Natasha vs Hawkeye (Avengers: Endgame)

Talk about the most heart-breaking fight scene ever, right? Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Natasha (Scarlett Johansson) formed such a strong platonic bond between each other that they were willing to sacrifice themselves for the other. Unfortunately, in Avengers: Endgame, one of them had to die, so they could retrieve the Soul Stone and save the entire universe. Introducing Natasha's backstory in the Black Widow movie also completely destroys the idea that the only reason why she sacrificed herself was because Clint was the one who had a family. It gives the fight scene even more meaning and depth.

6 Captain Marvel vs. Yon-Rogg (Captain Marvel)

Captain Marvel's fight scene between Carol and Yon-Rogg may not be as breathtaking as the other ones, but it's the meaning behind it that warrants its inclusion on this list. Throughout the movie, Carol is constantly told by Yon-Rogg to control her emotions, because they might cloud her judgement, which, in turn, prevents her from evolving to her full potential. However, at the end of the movie, she finally comes to terms with herself and her power, and beats everyone that she stands against — Yon-Rogg included.

5 Black Panther vs Killmonger — Final Fight (Black Panther)

It's amazing how the first part of Black Panther is set up to make you think that Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis) is the bad guy, but then they completely switch and throw a relatable antagonist into the picture. The whole metaphor of colonialism and imperialism that runs through the plot makes the final fight between T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and Erik (Michael B. Jordan) even more interesting. While Black Panther represents the strength and beauty of African culture, Killmonger is there to remind us that due to slavery, Africa is not the only place where the Black community resides. The fight essentially depicts two contradicting perspectives: one that's careful with revealing the strength of Wakanda, and the other that wants to start a revolution.

4 Natasha vs Yelena (Black Widow)

It is important to note though that while coming up with this MCU list, there was an evident lack of women inclusion in one-on-one fights — hence why the fight between Natasha and Yelena (Florence Pugh) is so iconic and important. All the fight scenes in Black Widow are arguably fluid and smooth, but this sister fight perfectly introduces us to the kind of relationship the two have. As they fight in an identical manner upon meeting each other, just like they were trained, the sibling energy phenomenally radiates off of them.

3 Thor vs Hulk (Thor: Ragnarok)

Who is the stronger Avenger: Thor (Chris Hemsworth) or Hulk (Mark Ruffalo)? That's the question that the Marvel audience had been discussing before this Gladiator fight finally happened in Thor: Ragnarok. It's sad that we didn't actually get our final answer, because Thor was paralyzed before they got the chance to finish the fight. However, Thor: Ragnarok did bless us with the fun friendship that Thor and Hulk managed to form while working together as the Revengers.

2 Iron Man vs Thanos (Avengers: Infinity War)

Thanos goes head to head with Iron Man

After eight years of Thanos being inside Tony's head, he finally got the chance to face his fears upfront. Infinity War does certainly have a lot of flaws and plot holes, but the fight between Iron Man and Thanos is not one of them. Despite Tony losing, he properly showcased his strength and did not give up trying.

1 Captain America vs Winter Soldier — Helicarrier Fight (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)

Captain-America-Winter-Soldier-Final-Fight

The fight scene between Steve and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, after Steve found out that the Winter Soldier is his long-lost best friend, is probably one of the most emotional fights in the MCU. It's even more touching when you realize that Bucky was the one who taught Steve how to fight to defend himself from the bullies before he became Captain America. Watching Steve as he refuses to fight back, because he knows that there is still his best friend underneath the Winter Soldier suit, is truly the emotional experience that we wanted from this movie.
