Megan Thee Stallion is in talks to star alongside Adam Sandler for a new Netflix feature project to be helmed by the Uncut Gems directors Safdie brothers. Deadline reports that brothers Josh and Benny Safdie have started their search for the film’s cast members.
While the rumor of Megan Thee Stallion joining the film is loud and has been reported by multiple sources, Netflix refused to neither deny nor confirm the said reports. Very little information about the film is known as Netflix kept everything under wraps for now. The plot lines and the title of the film is yet to be known as well. Representatives of the Hot Girl Summer singer also refused to confirm the news.
Megan Thee Stallion joining Sandler’s film isn’t far-fetched as the three time Grammy winner has started diving into acting the last few years. The chart-topping rapper and singer from Houston has previously appeared on different TV series including P-Valley, Good Girls and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
She has made her feature debut in the R-rated musical comedy F***ing Identical Twins starring alongside Nathan Lane, Bowen Yang and Megan Mullally. The musical from the Borat director Larry Charles was produced by A24 and Chernin Entertainment and does not have a release date yet.
Adam Sandler and The Safdie Brothers Make The Perfect Trio
It was reported late last year that Sandler is re-teaming with Safdie brothers for a yet to be named Netflix project. Although details of the film are scarce, it was reported that they’re eyeing to start filming this year. The new feature is the latest project in the long-standing relationship between Sandler and the streaming service. The actor signed a deal with the streaming giant last 2014 and the said deal has been extended twice. This has made Netflix the exclusive outlet for Sandler’s productions under his label Happy Madison Productions.
Sandler has worked greatly with the Salfie brothers as well. The trio has previously worked together for 2019 crime thriller film Uncut Gems. The film also starred Julia Fox, Idina Menzel, Kevin Garnett, The Weeknd, and Keith Williams. It was a massive hit with only a budget of $19 million and grossing over $50 million in the box office. While Uncut Gems has earned Sandler a newfound critical acclaim, it also cemented the Safdie directors as among the biggest names in the independent film world.
