Variety reports that Mel Gibson is in negotiations for Universal Pictures' Cold Warrior.

Should this happen, Gibson will be reunited with Lethal Weapon writer Shane Black. Black is also directing.

Chuck Mondry wrote the screenplay. It focuses on a spy from the Cold War era that abandons retirement to team up with a younger agent from today's world. They must confront a domestic terrorism threat that is put in play by Russia.

This would also mark Gibson's return to working under a studio banner. He wants to start production on the project in June, after he fishes shooting How I Spent My Summer Vacation. This is a film that he wrote and will also star in.
