Mel Gibson is engaged in "serious discussions" for a role in Machete Kills, which will be directed by Robert Rodriguez.

It isn't known what character the controversial actor will play, though he will likely be one of the main villains. Michelle Williams was also mentioned as a candidate for another role, but it isn't known if she is in talks yet or not. Danny Trejo will return as the title character from the ultra-violent 2010 hit Machete, an exiled Mexican agent hired by the American government to track down an arms dealer in his home country, before the maniac can fire a rocket onto U.S. soil.

Robert Rodriguez will direct from his own screenplay. It isn't known if other Machete stars such as Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, or Lindsay Lohan (who had media troubles similar to Mel Gibson when she appeared in the original) will reprise their roles for the sequel.

No production schedule has been released. Mel Gibson will next be seen in Get the Gringo, which will be released through DirecTV and VOD formats May 1.
