New fan art from BossLogic puts Jensen Ackles into the role of Metal Gear Solid protagonist Solid Snake. Lately, Ackles has been impressing fans with his role as Soldier Boy in Amazon's superhero satire series The Boys. The role has gotten the digital artist BossLogic thinking about how Ackles might appear as Solid Snake, specifically from the video game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Ackles is particularly well known for his long-running role on Supernatural, in which he starred alongside Jared Padalecki for 15 seasons. But Ackles is not finished with that role as he will provide the voice of Dean Winchester in the upcoming prequel series The Winchesters, serving as the show's narrator. For now, fans can see Ackles in his role as the Captain America spoof Soldier Boy, a character much more dastardly than his character on Supernatural.
"Toxic masculinity embodied in one character, that's what that is," Ackles recently said of the character on Good Morning America. "One of the great things about this show is it really does poke fun at the modern issues of politics or social issues and so we get to really lean in to the satire."
He added, "He has no filter when it comes to talking to women or really to anybody. It is that embodiment of what we deal with in society still from generations past and he is from an older generation. This is a character who fought in World War II and was a movie star in the '50s and was hanging out at the Playboy Mansion in the '70s, so he is from a time that is past, but still there is this toxicity that still exists today that I think we're using this character to poke fun at."
A Metal Gear Solid Movie Has Been in Development Hell for Years
As far as Metal Gear Solid goes, there are many fans who've seen the fan art that feel convinced Jensen Ackles would be a good fit for Solid Snake, going by the Twitter reactions to BossLogic's artwork. But he might be waiting a while for that opportunity, as there have been many efforts to get a Metal Gear Solid movie off the ground. The latest incarnation had Oscar Isaac attached to play Snake, and while the film seems to have since stalled, Isaac remains optimistic about the movie happening.
“We’re searching, we’re searching like Solid Snake. We’re climbing through air ducts, we’re looking for the story," Isaac told IGN in March, suggesting that the story was still getting worked out by the project's creatives.
Time will tell if the Metal Gear Solid movie ever comes to fruition and if Isaac remains in that role. As for Ackles, fans can check him out as Soldier Boy in the third season of The Boys, which can be found streaming on Prime Video.
