Marshall Curry will direct two new nonfiction features: the aspiring NASCAR driver chronicle, Racing Dreams and the true tale of an environmental arsonist, If a Tree Falls.

Dreams will track three junior high school-age "extreme kart racers" through the World Karting Assn.'s Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series, a training ground for NASCAR hopefuls. The Hollywood Reporter adds filming revs up this weekend at the X-Caliber Winter Nationals outside Charlotte, N.C., and climaxes at the Mobsteel Grand Nationals in Chapel Hill, N.Y., in September.

Falls is a self-financed project shot by Curry during the past year, follows controversial environmental activist Daniel McGowan after his arrest and plea bargain for committing arson. Curry expects the film will be completed this fall.
