One of The Sopranos is heading back to the small screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Imperioli has signed on to star the in new ABC pilot, Life on Mars. The series is based on the Life on Mars series that aired on the BBC.

The series will revolve around Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara), a police detective who suffers a horrific car crash and suddenly finds himself transported through time to the year 1973, and still as a detective. Imperioli will play Ray Carling, a rough-and-tumble and sexist detective and colleague of Tyler in 1973.

David E. Kelley wrote the original pilot but left the show, which is being executive produced by Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Scott Rosenberg, Jane Featherstone and Stephen Garrett. The show is slated to air at 10 PM ET on Thursdays, after Grey's Anatomy.
