When the first trailer of Morbius arrived a year ago, people took to the web to talk not about Jared Leto’s remarkably horrifying Marvel villain but about the sudden appearance of Michael Keaton at the end of it. It was the first clue of a potential crossover of stories and characters across two adjunct franchises, that are, Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Though that small appearance welcomed numerous theories at the time; however, it was only confirmed that Keaton is actually playing Vulture, his villainous character in Spider-Man: Homecoming, after that lightning teleportation of Eddie Brock at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Now, when we know that Keaton is reprising his role as Adrian Toomes/Vulture in Morbius, it seems like he is not entirely finished with his scenes even when the film is just a few weeks away from the theatrical release. It isn’t yet known whether Keaton is filming new scenes for the film or is working on additional photography; however, if he’s filming new scenes then his role could be more than that of a cameo and we may get a glimpse of him in his Vulture costume.

Earlier last month, Keaton has confirmed his role in Morbius and officially announced that he is set to shoot some “Vulture stuff” again. Though it was assumed that the announcement meant him shooting for Morbius, people have been fixated on his potential appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Of course, there has been no info on the latter, but, as Marvel boss, Kevin Feige has said, never say never when it comes to Marvel.

Keaton’s appearance in Morbius, other Spider-Man references in the released footage, and Venom’s call-out in the trailer have hyped fans for the film, as it surely would open several doors for multiple stories focusing on Spider-Man and create an adjunct mini-universe for the character.

The way Keaton’s role in Morbius is currently being perceived, it seems like he could be the one who preps the Sinister Six, a Sony Pictures Releasing project which has been on hold for a long while. There are even speculations of Morbius taking place in a different universe altogether due to various interdimensional references in its footage which fans believe belongs to the settings from other Spider-Man films (Marc Webb and Sam Raimi’s iterations).

What is the real reason behind these ongoing reshoots with Keaton on this Marvel project is unknown, but it will make the Marvel universe larger and will set stones for various interconnected stories that would make their way into movies or maybe Disney+ originals in the future. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal have already announced three more Spider-man films in making after No Way Home, which means Marvel and Sony are planning for a variety of new stories from the Spider-Man lore in the comics, which shall interact with other projects in the shared continuity within the MCU.

Keaton reprises his role in Morbius, which is set to release on January 28, 2022, and will also star Jared Leto, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, and Tyrese Gibson; while Spider-Man: No Way Home hit theaters on December 17, 2021, officially opening doors to Marvel Multiverse.
