In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we saw Wanda Maximoff take a villainous turn as Scarlet Witch, leading to her mysterious end towards the culmination of that movie. After the loss of her children in WandaVision, Elizabeth Olsen's character embraced her teachings from the Darkhold, leading her down the path of death and destruction. In Sam Raimi's supernatural thriller, she faces off Doctor Strange and Wong to take America Chavez's powers and reunite with her children in an alternate reality.

But after several battles and killing the Illuminati at Earth-838, the film ends with Wanda seemingly sacrificing herself, showing remorse for her actions. But, the sequence of her death leaves her fate unclear.

In an interview with Empire, writer Michael Waldron has weighed in on Scarlet Witch's status in the MCU. Though Waldron didn't let out any details, he let everyone know what he felt about it.

She’s removing herself from the board… For now? Forever? We’ll see. I’d like to see her again…

In a way, Wanda dies kind of off-screen, and she seemingly survives the collapse of Mount Wundagore. Hence there is a huge possibility that she will return to the MCU as the franchise further dives into the Multiverse Saga. It wouldn't be the first time that Marvel has brought back characters to life, and Wanda might find her way back to the MCU timeline just as Loki has multiple times. And given that Scarlet Witch has a crucial role in Marvel's multiversal narratives, it's reassuring that Elizabeth Olsen will return to the franchise in the near future.

Elizabeth Olsen’s Seemingly Assured Return To MCU

A project that might see Olsen return to the MCU as Scarlet Witch could be Agatha: Coven of Chaos. The show will be a spin-off of WandaVision featuring Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness in the lead role. Harkness is Wanda's primary antagonist in the MCU. Given their history, as teased in WandaVision, Coven of Chaos may continue that arc with Olsen returning to reprise her role as Scarlet Witch.

The other project she could return for is Loki Season 2. But, details of that are under wraps for now. Olsen is also reprising her role in What If…? Season 2, voicing several variants of her characters in the second segment of MCU's animated anthology. Moreover, her character has a lot of stories to tell from Marvel Comics that are still left to be adapted in a live-action format. And with X-Men coming to the MCU and Wanda’s parentage left to be covered after that tease in WandaVision, there is a massive chance for her to make a comeback.

Scarlet Witch is currently one of the most powerful beings in the MCU. And MCU's current plans for the future aim at such a cosmic story that can't be completed without superbeings like Wanda Maximoff. It isn't clear how Wanda will fit in the future strategies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but fans would be delighted to see Olsen return to her iconic portrayal.
