According to Variety, Warner Bros. will have Mike Mitchell (Shrek Forever After) direct Monster Squad. Donald De Line will be producing.

Initially, McG was going to direct this film in 2007 from a screenplay by Michael Arndt. It was about a neurotic father who must face childhood monsters. The current story is not being revealed. However, the newest version of the script was written by Brad Copeland (Yogi Bear). Warner Bros. wants to go into production next summer.

Monster Squad initially came on the scene in 2000. At this point Warner Bros. bought Brian Lynch's spec screenplay then called Nightcrawlers. That version followed "the adventures of an international coalition of kids whose job it is to combat a variety of monsters found under beds."
