While it is unclear whether Mike Myers would ever do a fourth Austin Powers movie, he is bringing his iconic villain Dr. Evil back for a new GM advert that will be making its debut during the Super Bowl this weekend. Along with some other familiar faces from the Austin Powers movie series, Myers will be lifting his pinkie once more as the bad guy who for many years believed the most tremendous ransom in the world was $1 million. After returning to the Wayne’s World franchise for some short sketches in recent years, this will be Myers once again getting reacquainted with one of his best-known characters.General Motors teased the upcoming commercial on their Twitter account, with a short video containing the captions, “His name is legendary. His plans are diabolical. He rules not with an iron fist, but with an iron pinkie.” Myers’s return as Dr. Evil was revealed, with one other line of text reading, “Evil is back for good.” You can check out the short clip below.

While the advert itself is geared towards the movie to electric vehicles, and that will clearly be something that will be exploited by Evil, Myers’s role reprisal is not the only Austin Powers returnee see in the commercial. Additional teases by GM have revealed Rob Lowe will be back as Number 2, as will Mindy Sterling as Frau Farbissina and Seth Green as Scott Evil, making it a real reunion affair that will no doubt make many people feel a bit of nostalgia for the comedy franchise which concluded its trilogy of movies with Goldmember twenty years ago in 2002.

Could Mike Myers's Return As Dr. Evil Pave The Way for a New Austin Powers Movie?

Of course, when any actor returns to a much-loved role after many years, fans instantly begin questioning whether this is a sign of something bigger to come. While there is no doubt many would love to see Myers strutting his stuff as the international man of mystery one more time, according to Jay Roach, who directed all three of the Austin Powers movies, it all really comes down to Myers himself. In 2020, Roach chatted with Deadline about the likelihood of a new Austin Powers film. At the time he said:

"I wouldn't say 'never never...I'm always game for whatever [Mike Myers] wants to do. It does depend on Mike having something that he's inspired about, and so far, after all these years, it hasn't quite clicked yet.”

Having once been everywhere, Mike Myers has reigned back his work in recent years, appearing in low-key, minor roles in movies like Bohemian Rhapsody and Inglorious Basterds, but as he has now chosen to bring Dr. Evil back to the screen, even if it is just for a commercial, could it serve as the catalyst needed to bring Myers back with his former comedy flair. While it seems that there are no plans currently in place for such a return, the reception to the GM commercial this weekend could be enough to sway him into putting on his thinking cap about a new Austin Powers adventure for the future.
