Mila Kunis will portray a thriving New Yorker with a dark past in Luckiest Girl Alive. Netflix has just released a trailer for the upcoming mystery film which will land on the streamer October 7, following a limited release in select theaters September 30. Kunis plays Ani FaNelli, who, according to the film's official logline "appears to have it all: a sought-after position at a glossy magazine, a killer wardrobe, and a dream Nantucket wedding on the horizon." Ani's seemingly perfect life is suddenly headed towards chaos when a true-crime filmmaker asks her to share her story about a violent attack that occurred during her teen years. Revealing the incident threatens Ani's life, as she has kept it a secret fearful of what her husband, his friends, his family, and everyone around her might think if they knew the truth.

Luckiest Girl Alive is based on the New York Times bestseller of the same name written by Jessica Knoll. Knoll has also written the film's screenplay and will serve as an executive producer. In 2016, following the novel's release, Knoll publicly shared that she, like the book's central character, was raped as a teen and recounted the range of emotions that ensued.

Luckiest Girl Alive also stars Chiara Aurelia as a young Ani FaNelli, Finn Wittrock, Scoot McNairy, Thomas Barbusca, Justine Lupe, Dalmar Abuzeid, Alex Barone, Carson MacCormac, Jennifer Beals, and Connie Britton. The film is directed by Emmy nominee Mike Barker, who is known for his work on The Handmaid's Tale. Kunis also serves as a producer alongside Bruna Papandrea, Jeanne Snow, Erik Feig, and Lucy Kitada. Knoll and Barker executive produce with Lisa Sterbakov, Shayne Fiske Goldner, and Steve Hutensky.
