Miles Teller has signed on to star in the indie drama Whiplash alongside J.K. Simmons.

The story centers on a jazz orchestra teacher who unleashes his frustrations on a young drummer (Miles Teller), forming a bond with the musician in the process. The tone is described as Full Metal Jacket set at a Juliard-type performing arts school. The project is based on a short film of the same name, which won the Sundance Short Film Jury earlier this year, and was made primarily to secure funding for a feature film.
