One actress is trading the gridiron for Capitol Hill for a new CW series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights) has secured the lead role in the new pilot Body Politic for the CW Network.

Kelly will portray Hope, a girl who leaves her home state of Michigan after her mother's death and heads to Washington D.C. to meet her estranged father, Sen. Webster (Tim Matheson). Webster is just appointed the new Attorney General and Hope takes a job on his staff.

Jason Dohring (Veronica Mars) has also joined the cast as well, playing a reporter for the Washington Post.

No production schedule was given for the series, but they did mention that Kelly's new role hear doesn't mean Friday Night Lights will be cancelled. It was reported that "insiders are optimistic the show will return for a fourth season" but Kelly's character, Kyla, who graduated and will be in college, will return in a guest-starring capacity.
