Miramax Films bought the rights to the Italian foreign-language film, Golden Door (Nuovomondo).

Written and directed by Emanuele Crialese, it tells a mythical tale of a Sicilian peasant family that encounters an American stranger who talks of the fortune that awaits them in his country. The Hollywood Reporter adds the film is set in 1913 and inspired by his stories; they travel to Ellis Island to seek their fortune.

Producers are hoping for an Oscar nomination in the foreign-language catagory.
