Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions have hired Will Staples, best known for working on video games Need for Speed: Rivals and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, to write the script for Mission: Impossible 5.

Drew Pearce was originally attached to write the script, but that was before Christopher McQuarrie came on board to direct back in October. It isn't known if any elements of Drew Pearce's story will be used, or if Will Staples will start from scratch.

Tom Cruise is reprising his role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt, and Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol star Simon Pegg revealed that he is also returning. Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Ving Rhames have been rumored to come back as well, but their involvement has not been confirmed.

We also reported last month that Jessica Chastain has been offered a role, either as a fellow IMF agent or as Ethan Hunt's new love interest.
