Tom Cruise is well-known for performing all of his own death-defying stunts, including a scene where he traverses the world's tallest building, the Burj Khlaifa, in 2011's Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol. New video and images from the set of Mission: Impossible 5 show the actor performing perhaps his most incredible stunt yet, hanging off a moving plane 5,000 feet in the air in director Christopher McQuarrie's action-thriller.

The actor was seen strapped to the side of an Airbus A400M plane which was flying over the British countryside. While he was strapped in with two harnesses, he also used fixtures on the plane to hold on as the plane took off. Dressed in a full three-piece suit, the actor is also seen practicing this sequence with a stunt-man dressed in an identical charcoal suit.

Of course, it isn't known how this sequence fits into the overall story of Mission: Impossible 5, since very few plot details have been released thus far. We do know that Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol co-stars Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames are reprising their roles for Mission: Impossible 5, alongside new cast members Alec Baldwin, Rebecca Ferguson and Simon McBurney.
