Moammar Gadhafi is financing a new film entitled Years of Torment. According to Variety, he will put up fifty million dollars for this film about the Italian occupation of Libya.

The film will focus on the three decade Italian occupation of Libya from 1911-43. It will be told via firsthand accounts written by Libyans and international witnesses. The project will mark the directorial debut of Najdat Anzour.

Anzour stated, "The film is being made in the spirit of reconciliation and dialogue and because we need to remind people about Libya's history. President Gadhafi wants to do something for his country. This won't be propaganda. The film will focus on the ordinary people. It will be like "Crash", where all these similarly different characters will find themselves connected by events."

The film will begin shooting early next year.
