It looks like Disney is going to be continuing their phenomenal year, both in terms of box office and critical acclaim, with their upcoming animated feature Moana. The movie will be going by a different name, Oceana, in Italy though. Why, may you ask? Well, because Moana was the name of a very famous Italian porn star. You know, that old story.

According to Cartoon Brew, the Disney marketing team in Italy felt compelled to change the name of Moana in the country because of a very famous Adult Film star by the name of Moana Pozzi. She passed away at the age of 33 in 1994, but she still has quite a bit of notoriety, so it seemed like a good idea to change the title to Oceana. Cartoon Brew does note that Disney reps in Italy have yet to offer an official explanation, but this is the theory currently going around.

The only similarity between Moana Pozzi and the character of Moana in Disney's latest movie is that both of their names have Polynesian roots. Beyond that, it makes sense that Disney would want to avoid any other comparisons. Granted, Moana Pozzi did do more than just XXX movies. She ran for Mayor of Rome at one point and started her own political party, the Love Party. She didn't win, but she at least had aspirations beyond pornography.

Moana tells the story of an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (Auliʻi Cravalho) meets the mighty demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she's always sought: her own identity.

As of this writing, Moana has a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and it is expected to perform very well at the box office. So, the whole porn star name thing won't seem to have any effect on the movie, but it is an amusing PR problem that the studio had to deal with. Moana stars Dwayne Johnson, Auliʻi Cravalho, Alan Tudyk, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger, Temuera Morrison and Rachel House. The movie was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, with Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda providing the original music. Moana, or Oceana if you live in Italy, is set to hit theaters on November 23.
